The Ruin is a beautifully un-restored copper miner's house from the early 1900s. Only a few walls remain, with a working fireplace complete with the hand and footprints of a small child pressed into the cement. The ceremony and reception will take place on site, with the party continuing at Pappy and Harriet's after 10PM.

Directions from Pappy and Harriet's:

Turn right onto Pioneertown Road

Turn right on Pipes Canyon Road

Go about three miles until you see Acacia Ave.

Follow the signs to the parking area. You will be turning right onto a dirt road.

Sunset from the Ruin

Sunset from the Ruin

Though there is structure to the Ruin, we are out in the elements for the duration of the wedding. For the most enjoyable time, please be prepared for the following:

  • Bright sun - Sunscreen and sunglasses will be needed in the afternoon. Those not used to the dry air will also want to use some lip balm and lotion (trust, things can get a bit chapped).
  • Dirt - There is no flooring. Please refrain from wearing very expensive shoes or high heels. Stilettos will sink into the dirt and damage your shoes. Wide heels/wedges/platforms will do just fine, but boots are preferable.
  • Layers - As soon as the sun sets, the temperature will drop drastically. We will have the fireplace and other heaters, but you will be much more comfortable in a jacket or sweater. On average, in April, the area experiences daily highs of 80°F/27°C and lows of 54°F/12°C. We will be offering a self-coatcheck to store any extra layers during the warmer part of the day.
  • Fire Hazard - We will be in a very dry climate surrounded by brush. A discarded lit cigarette, sparkler, or match can cause a lot of damage. Do not dispose of cigarettes or matches on the ground, even if you believe they are completely extinguished. Please use designated ashtrays.
  • Boulders - One of the incredible charms of the Ruin is the surrounding wall of boulders. Though tempting, do not climb the boulders. Similarly, do not overturn rocks or otherwise disturb natural areas around the Ruin. Though the noise of the party will probably keep them away, April is high season for rattlesnakes.
  • Wind - It is possible that we will experience high winds. Please keep this in mind when selecting hats, hairstyles, and dresses.
